JAMES R. KELLY TO TESTIFY BEFORE CONGRESS

Jim Kelly, CEO of Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans and CEO of Providence Community Housing, will testify tomorrow, February 6, 2007 before the U.S. House Committee on Financial Services hearing on the “Federal Housing Response to Hurricane Katrina” in Washington, D.C.

The hearing will focus on the loss of affordable rental housing units in New Orleans and along the Gulf Coast.

Since Hurricane Katrina, Catholic Charities has served more than 700,000 people.  We have delivered 70 million pounds of food and water, provided counseling and information to over a half million people and through our emergency centers, distributed millions of dollars in direct assistance.

Providence Community Housing, the Catholic post-Katrina initiatve has a mission to return 20,000 people to the Greater New Orleans Area by repairing, rebuilding or developing 7,000 homes or apartments. Catholic Charities is a partner in the initiative.

Kelly will be available for interviews February 7, 2007.  Written copies of his testimony will also be available.
