CATHOLIC CHARITIES KICKS OFF THANKSGIVING AND CHRISTMAS DONATION DRIVES
As 2006 continues to mark the year of recovery from Hurricane Katrina, Catholic Charities will reinstate its Thanksgiving and Christmas donation matching program. Individuals, businesses, schools, churches are encouraged to contact Catholic Charities to be matched with clients from any of its 39 programs.
“Catholic Charities is an excellent place to donate items for the holidays because we have such a large and varied client base,” Shannon Murphy, Director of Volunteers, said. “Children, families, the elderly, abused, homeless, disabled and lots of other people need a little more help this time of year.”
Last year, Catholic Charities was not equipped with staff or space to be able to distribute gifts as we have been in normal years. This year, as space is still limited, the Volunteer Department encourages donors to either be able to deliver their holiday donations or purchase gift cards for clients to use.
“Gift cards are a great way to empower our clients,” Murphy said. “Our clients can then purchase gifts and household items for their children and families.”
Catholic Charities is accepting donations through mid-December. Interested donors may contact Shannon Murphy, Director of Volunteers at (504) 310-6962 or smurphy@archdiocese-no.org to be matched up with an individual, program or family this holiday season.
