Catholic Charities Crescent House Holds Domestic
Violence Vigil

Catholic Charities Crescent House Healing and Empowerment Center will hold a vigil and awareness forum on Thursday, October 26, 2006 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on the steps of City Hall to commemorate October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Instances of domestic violence have risen dramatically in the year after Hurricane Katrina, with fewer resources available to victims. This solemn ceremony will recognize and pay tribute to those who have been killed in Louisiana this year as a result of domestic violence.

         Mary Claire Landry, Director, Catholic Charities Domestic Abuse Programs

WHAT:

  • Domestic Violence Vigil and Awareness Forum,
  • Display of “The Clothesline Project” focusing on how we as a city can take a zero tolerance policy on domestic violence
  • Speakers from the Mayor’s office and NOPD
  • Recognition of Rep. Cheryl Gray for her support
  • Candlelight vigil to remember the victims
