Volunteer
Volunteers:
Much of the work of Catholic Charities goes forward because of the generous giving of time and energy by our corps of volunteers. We welcome volunteer partnerships with church parishes, medical and legal offices, and businesses. University "alternative break programs" and high school students are welcome to join the ranks as volunteers. Your activities may be a one-time event, short term, or permanent. There are many opportunities to get involved, including:
  • Tutoring children
  • Assisting teachers in Head Start Centers
  • Perform clerical work in shelter programs
  • Coordinate arts and crafts and musical activities with seniors and shelters
  • Mentor for at-risk youth
  • Plan and coordinate year round activities through the "Adopt a Child/Family Program"
  • Serve internships for graduate and undergraduate university students
  • Perform service hours for high school students
  • Counsel women through ACCESS Pregnancy Program
  • Clerk at resale shop
Why do you want to volunteer?
Your God-given individual gifts and talents can and do make a difference in the lives of those most in need. Volunteering is satisfying as your work benefits others, especially those in need.

How can I get other questions answered? For example, "What hours will I work? Can I volunteer at a site close to my home? Where are my skills most needed?"

You can receive answers to all of these questions with a phone call to Catholic Charities. We can give you information about any one of our volunteer positions, mail you application materials, and connect you with a volunteer coordinator.
For more information about volunteer opportunities at Catholic Charities, call the Volunteer Office at 504-523-3755, ext. 3002 or 3004. E-mail us at the Volunteer Department with your name, address, and phone number. Our FAX number is 504-523-0007.
