Padua Community Services
Adult Residential Program
What is the Adult Program?

The Adult Residential Program of Pauda Community Services offers community-based services to developmentally disabled individuals. Unlike those who live in institutions, these adults live in community homes, supervised homes, or apartments. They receive a variety of services to promote independence.

A Plan for Life

Padua Community Services' Adult Residential Program operates six community homes for adults with developmental disabilities throughout the metropolitan New Orleans area. These community homes offer social skills training, counseling, indpendent living skills training, recreation, and, when needed, physical, occupational, and speech therapy in a home-like atmosphere. Vocational skills training is also available for residents participating in paid or volunteer employment activity. After their initial training period, residents have been placed in satisfying employment at, job sites, mobile crews, and enclaves throughout the community.

A Professional, Caring Staff

The staff uses positive reinforcement in teaching and maintaining independent living skills and appropriate social behavior.
These community homes, based on a family - like atmosphere, are often the first steps toward independent living for persons with developmental disabilities. Residents receive meals, lodging, medical services, and independent living skills training. Residents' rights and interests are always respected as the program's professional treatment team designs specific training which address physical and mental impairments.

Supported Living Services

The apartments and home of the Adult Residential Program provide direct care support, housing, limited supportive training, and counseling services for developmentally disabled adults who are capable of living independently. The program also assists in securing appropriate employment for residents. Residents are responsible for paying their own living expenses and are provided with skills training to address all activities of daily living.
