Giving Opportunities

Catholic Charities is blessed with the support of many people throughout the Archdiocese.  Very special people give from the heart, leaving a legacy of care, so that others can find new life and hope! We need your gifts as we continue to provide quality services to the poor and to vulnerable populations; services based on our mission and values.

Catholic Charities accepts cash gifts and memorials directly.  Planned Gifts, wills and legacies for Catholic Charities are accepted through THE CATHOLIC FOUNDATION of the Archdiocese of New Orleans. We encourage prospective donors to seek the professional advice of the Foundation to determine available options. Of course, the Chief Executive Officer and the Development Director of Catholic Charities are always available to answer questions or provide information about Catholic Charities.

MEMORIAL/LIVING TRIBUTE

A memorial is a gift of remembrance to honor the memory of a loved one, a friend or someone special.  A living tribute is a gift of remembrance in honor of an anniversary, jubilee or birthday.

BEQUESTS

A bequest is a gift through a will.  The gift is made after your death from the property you owned.  Perhaps you would like to make a substantial gift to Catholic Charities now but do not have the financial resources to do so.  If this describes your situation you may want to consider a bequest on our behalf.

The following examples provide the suggested wording to include Catholic Charities in your will:

a)      “I give $15,000, or 3% of my disposable estate at death, whichever is greater, to the Catholic Foundation of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, to be used only by Catholic Charities, for the general purposes of the agency.

b)      “I give $15,000, or 3% of my disposable estate at death, whichever is greater, to the Catholic Foundation  Archdiocese of New Orleans to be used by Catholic Charities for the benefit of (name of a specific program).

You can designate specific property like your residence, a percentage of your estate, a specific dollar amount, or a portion of the “residue” (what remains after your family and loved ones have received what you have designated for them).

INSURANCE POLICY

This type of gift is made through the Catholic Foundation (as owner and beneficiary). Upon the death of the insured the Foundation distributes the face value of the policy to programs supported by Catholic Charities.

GIFT ANNUITY AGREEMENTS

This type of gift, made through the Catholic Foundation, provides a lifetime guaranteed income to the donor and upon the death of the last surviving annuitant, the remaining assets will benefit Catholic Charities.  This type gift is typically funded with cash, stocks, or securities.

CHARITABLE REMAINDER TRUSTS

This type of  trust, through the Catholic Foundation is usually funded with real estate, stocks, securities or cash.  It provides a lifetime income to the donor and a substantial future gift to Catholic Charities.

DONOR ADVISED FUNDS

Allows a donor to establish a fund that will provide for Catholic Charities.  The donor advises the Foundation they wish to make a gift using the interest of the fund or the corpus pursuant to the donor’s desires.  Additionally, the donor receives a tax deduction when they deposit into their fund and the charitable dollars appreciate through the interest that the fund earns.
