| If you or
someone you know has one or more of these disabilities, free state-loaned telephone
equipment is available to meet communications needs. |
|
Those
who are eligible:
- Must be a resident of Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, St.
Charles, St. John, Plaquemines, Terrebonne, or Lafourche parishes
and
-Must present written documentation from an audiologist, physician, or social
worker confirming hearing or speech impairment.

If you meet eligibility requirements, the following
equipment is available to you:
- Telecommunication Device for the Deaf (TTY, TDD, or TT) allows people with
hearing and speech impairments to have full use of the telephone by providing a visual
display of the conversation.
- Large Visual Display TDD (LVD)allows a person who is deaf with some visual
impairment to have full use of the telephone by providing large print display of the
conversation.
- Telebrailler (TB) allows deaf-blind persons to have full use of the telephone by
providing Braille display of the conversation.
- Uniphone (UP) is a voice carry-over and a hearing carry-over telephone that is
combined with a TDD telephone and amplified handset.
- Ameriphone (Voice Carry Over- VCO) allows hard of hearing persons to use their
voice to talk to a hearing person, then read the conversation of the hearing person on the
telephone display.
- Amplified Telephone (AMPHONE) allows the volume on the handset on the telephone
to be increased, enabling a hard of hearing person to better understand what is being
said.
- Loud Bell Ringer (LBR) is a small box which amplifies the ringing of the
telephone bell. It has adjustable volume and tone controls.
- Flashing Light Signal/Receiver (FS/R) is a set of flashers that flash the light
when the telephone rings.
- Amplifier (AMP) plugs into the telephone between the handset and the body of the
telephone. It operates on one AA battery, has a variable control and amplifies speech up
to three times normal tone.
