CATHOLIC CHARITIES LAUNCHES CORNERSTONE BUILDERS PROGRAM WITH A SPECIAL CEREMONY

 

                  On Monday, May 7, Catholic Charities officially launches its new Cornerstone Builders program with a ceremony at its headquarters. Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu will help to inaugurate this group of 30 formerly incarcerated persons who are re-entering the community.

 

                  The Cornerstone Builders program partners Catholic Charities, AmeriCorps and the New Orleans Civic JusticeTask Force in helping those who are leaving prison to rebuild their lives. The Cornerstone Builders will work at area non-profit agencies and will mentor, tutor and counsel their peers in exchange for a stipend, education award, job training and health benefits.

 

                  After 10-12 months participating in this program, the Cornerstone Builders will have a foundation based on leadership and community service onwhich to seek gainful employment.
